Warriors Claim Several Season Bests at Redlands

The Westcliff track team continued its impressive development at the University of Redlands Invitational Friday in Redlands.

Abel Rendon and Jalen Bayron both had incredible weeks of practice leading up to the meet and both shined, capturing season best marks.

Rendon cleared the high jump at 6-feet, .75-inches, while Bayron finished the 100 in 11.43 seconds and the 200 in 23.72 seconds.

"The biggest standouts were Abel and Jalen," Westcliff head coach Justin Johnson said. "They had an amazing week of practice and it showed in their performances."

Aidan Wahl had a busy day on the track and in the field. Wahl ran the 100 in 11.71 seconds before throwing the shot put 36-feet, 4.75-inches, and the discus 90-feet, 11-inches.

Westcliff's distance star Kelvin Kiptoo finished the 5000 in 16-minutes, 22.11-seconds, another season best mark.

On the women's side, Shackera Samuels finished the 400m Hurdles in 1-minute, 16.21-seconds.

Mika Vargas was very busy as she continues her journey toward the heptathlon. Vargas ran the 100m Hurdles (21.73), and threw the discus (85' 2"), the javelin (64' 5") and the hammer (103' 1").

Emily Gamboa competed in three throwing events as well, the shot put (27'), the discus (78' 5") and the hammer (83' 7").

"We did OK. We've definitely done better," Johnson said. "However, we will go back to the drawing board and figure some things out.

"We don't have a meet for three weeks, so we will go back to the lab, get in shape and grind, and we will be ready to debut a few different events."

The Warriors will travel to Whittier College for the Whittier Twilight on April 8th.
