Rendon Gold, Koturenka Silver at Sunshine Open
Abelardo Rendon is now two-for-two. The Westcliff track & field team took the second step on their indoor season three-meet journey Saturday in Santa Barbara, and Abel Rendon won his second straight high-jump event walking — er, leaping — away. Rendon cleared not one, but two heights no other jumper could match to win gold with a leap of 1.90m. The next highest cleared height was 1.79m.

Abelardo Rendon is now two-for-two.
The Westcliff track & field team took the second step on their indoor season three-meet journey Saturday in Santa Barbara, and Abel Rendon won his second straight high-jump event walking — er, leaping — away.
Rendon cleared not one, but two heights no other jumper could match to win gold with a mark of 1.90m.
The next highest cleared height was 1.79m.
Rendon is on fire and will look to make it three straight championships Saturday at Soka.
Not to be outdone, Jonas Koturenka nearly made it two golds for Westcliff, when he finished second overall in the 400M (51.44).
But he wasn't done there.
Koturenka also took fifth overall in the 600 (1:27.40), and 18th overall in the 3000 (10:11.21).
"We had two school records broken today," Westcliff head coach Ty Blanchard said. "Four athletes get in the record books. Seven season bests and personal records. And a meet champion."
Harrison Horner had a nice day sprinting, finishing 15th overall in the 200M (23.38). He also had a 7.37-second finish in the 60M preliminaries.
In other field events, Alexandro Villegas finished ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.82m.
Meanwhile, Aidan Wahl impressed in the shot put, placing seventh overall with a throw of 11.15m.
"Today was a stellar day for Westcliff track & field," Blanchard said. "We are on the rise and doing amazing things over here.
"I am proud of these kids, and this is only the beginning."
On the women's side, Nicole Moore had a fantastic day, finishing 10th overall in the 400 M (1:12.50) and 30th in the 200 M (29.94).
Alex Juarez had a nice finish in the 1 Mile, turning in a mark of 8:24.79, good for 15th overall.
The Warriors return to Orange County Saturday for the last indoor meet of the season.
Soka will host in Aliso Viejo.
The meet starts at 9 a.m.
Westcliff will then gear up for the outdoor season which begins in March.
