Westcliff women's wrestling closed out its home schedule Saturday morning by hosting the Westcliff Duals at Golden West College, competing against Fresno State, Arizona Christian, Vanguard, and Menlo in a women-only event.

Berlyn Davis headlined the day for Westcliff, going 2–0 and delivering one of the most memorable performances of the meet. Davis secured a decisive fall against Vanguard before edging Menlo in a tightly contested 7–6 decision, providing a highlight moment against one of the toughest opponents in the field.

The match was riddled with controversy after Davis was awarded a penalty point when the Menlo wrestler covered Davis's face with her hands. The point never made it to the board, however, miffing the visitors.

Menlo made their case, but to no avail. It was Davis's wrist raised when all was said and done.  

Head coach D'Rell Gist said the event marked the end of Westcliff's home slate and reflected both progress and areas still to be addressed.

"Crazy to think we just hosted our last home event of the season," Gist said. "Overall, we wrestled decent but still have a lot to work on. Abby Mendoza piced up her first college victory of the season, which was awesome!

"Berlyn Davis also handled business and went 2–0 on the day. She had a barn burner of a match against a tough opponent from Menlo and won the match 7–6."

Westcliff earned team victories over Fresno State and Vanguard, tied Arizona Christian, and fell to Menlo. Abby Mendoza won with a fall against Fresno State, while Vanessa Alvarado, Genesis Mendoza, and Natalie Gonzales each finished the day with 1–1 records.

Gist said the team showed resilience throughout the morning.

"Overall, the ladies wrestled tough and battled through adversity," Gist said. "Proud to keep working as we prepare for our next meet against southern Oregon University."
