Turnovers cost Warriors in Maritime Loss
By Brandon Petersen
The Westcliff men's basketball team struggled to maintain offensive control Saturday afternoon in Vallejo, committing 20 turnovers in an 85–68 loss to Cal Maritime.
The Warriors entered the matchup having defeated Cal Maritime by 11 points earlier this season but were unable to replicate that performance, as ball security issues disrupted offensive rhythm throughout both halves.
Westcliff shot an efficient 54-percent from the field and received a team-high 18 points from Lorenzo Marsh, but repeated miscues limited scoring opportunities and allowed Cal Maritime to capitalize in transition.
DJ Henry and Jeramiah Paulino each added 11 points, while Nathan Hernandez contributed nine off the bench.
Cal Maritime countered with strong perimeter shooting, finishing 12-for-26 from three-point range. Justiz Wilson led the Keelhaulers with 28 points, including seven made three-pointers, while Lawrence Long added 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting.
The game remained competitive through the first half, with Cal Maritime holding a narrow 40–36 lead at the break. However, the hosts extended their advantage in the second half behind efficient shooting and timely defensive pressure, gradually pulling away down the stretch.
Westcliff falls to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play, but will look to rebound Thursday at Simpson.
