Devald Prevails in Second Set TB 16-14, WU Wins
The Westcliff men's tennis team took on Bowdoin on Tuesday at the Orange County Great Park Tennis Center.
The Warriors fell behind when they lost the doubles point, but quickly handled business in the singles to get the win over Bowdoin, 4-1.
The No. 3 singles match earned the last point needed by the Warriors, and it was none other than Borna Devald.
Devald has been playing consistently this season and has quickly become part of the starting group against the competition.
"Borna brings a lot of fun to the team and his attitude is infectious," head coach Ross Duncan explained. "He plays with joy for the game which is an underrated part of being a competitor."
Duncan was happy that the team got the win, but there is still work to be done in doubles if they'll have a chance in the postseason.
"The team is playing well but we still need to improve our doubles at 1 and 3," Duncan said. "Let's get our doubles back on track and make it a goal to not lose another doubles point for the remainder of the season."
With the win, Westcliff improved to (7-6, GSAC 3-0) as they get ready to travel to Arizona for a couple of conference matches.
On Friday they'll play OUAZ and on Saturday it will be a match-up against ACU.
The defending GSAC champions are undefeated in both the women's and men's conferences and are poised to make another deep run with the expectations of winning the trophy again.
The only thing that stands in the way of the Warriors are injuries and unforced errors in their matches.
If they can get healthy leading up to the postseason and lower the number of errors, then Westcliff will be an overwhelming issue to the rest of the teams in the conference.
The next home game will be on Wednesday, March 20th at 12:30 p.m. in the same location.
