The Westcliff men's volleyball team impressed Friday night at Momentous Sports Center with a straight-set winner over Pacific Union, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-12).
Libero TJ Meyer had an entire cheering section on hand and the gym was rocking as PUC had a nice contingent on hand as well.
Speaking of Trevor Meyer, Westcliff's emotional leader had a nice night defensively, turning 12 digs, one off the pace of Dane Johnson (two block-stuffs), who had a game-high 13.
"It was a step in the right direction heading into Conference, and we're excited about that," Westcliff head coach Alex Griffiths said. "Still a lot of things to work on. The little things. The details. Details, and being more disciplined. But it was a good start."
Thomas Taufetee and his electric right arm put on a show, leading the Warriors with a game-high 17 kills, and he thrived on the defensive end as well, collecting eight digs.
"Thomas really executed properly for us in the front row/back row," Griffiths said. "We've been looking to him for that rotation holding a six rotational pin starter spot, so, he did a great job executing for us."
Diogo Mata was generous at net, handing out 22 assists, while Michael Schoffstall had 13 of his own.
Andy Jaszcynski impressed as well, turning in nine kills and five digs.
Gustavo Marquez had six kills.
At the service stripe, Leonardo Garcia had three aces, Jaszcynski and Taufetee had a pair each and Jacob Kamana'O-Bulosan had one of his own during a nice streak that put the third game away early.
Up next, the Warriors return to the gym tomorrow for another Cal Pac showdown with Simpson, Saturday at Jordan Lawley.
First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
