MIDSEASON FORM
Warriors handle business in sweep at Park-Gilbert
By Brandon Petersen
No. 14 Westcliff didn't waste time making itself comfortable Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors walked into Park-Gilbert's gym, executed with precision from the opening serve, and rolled to a clean, business-like 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-21, 25-20) to improve to 4-3 on the season.
Westcliff controlled the tempo from start to finish, hitting a blistering .402 as a team while limiting Park-Gilbert to a .200 attacking percentage. The Warriors were sharp offensively, efficient in transition, and rarely allowed the hosts to generate sustained momentum.
Gabriel Pizza led the attack with 16 kills, providing steady production throughout all three sets. Andrin Broder added 10 kills on an efficient .500 hitting clip, while Tiago Silva chipped in nine kills at a .538 percentage, helping Westcliff maintain consistent pressure across the front row.
Setter Nikos Kalagasidis orchestrated the offense with 34 assists, spreading the ball effectively and keeping Park-Gilbert's block guessing. M'hamed Mifdal delivered one of the most efficient performances of the day, finishing with five kills on six swings without an error.
Westcliff seized control early in the opening set behind crisp passing and disciplined attacking, building separation quickly and cruising to a 25-17 win. The Warriors continued to apply steady pressure in the second, using balanced scoring and clean execution to fend off brief pushes from Park-Gilbert before closing the frame 25-21.
The third set followed a similar script. Westcliff dictated the rhythm, minimized errors, and leaned on its depth to finish the sweep with a 25-20 victory.
Defensively, the Warriors collected 34 digs and added 11 total blocks, consistently disrupting Park-Gilbert's offense and preventing extended runs.
The performance reflected a straightforward road effort — efficient, controlled, and decisive — as Westcliff handled its business and headed home with a quick three-set victory.
The Dubs take on Ben U in Mesa today at 2 p.m.
