Warriors show out, knock down No. 10 Ben U
By Brandon Petersen
That's how you do that.
Westcliff Men's Volleyball delivered one of its most efficient performances of the season Monday afternoon in Mesa, sweeping No. 10 Benedictine in straight sets, 25-21, 26-24, 25-21, behind a dominant and balanced offensive attack.
The Warriors hit a blistering .542 as a team, recording 60 kills with just eight errors on 96 attempts, controlling the tempo from the opening set and never allowing the ranked Redhawks to establish sustained momentum.
Rodolfo Biegelmeyer led the way with 13 kills while hitting .565, and Gabriel Pizza powered the offense with a match-high 20 kills.
Tom Dempsey added 10 kills on a .529 clip, while Tiago Silva and M'hamed Mifdal provided efficient complementary scoring, each hitting above .600.
Setter Nikos Kalagasidis orchestrated the attack with 45 assists as Westcliff spread the offense effectively, keeping Ben U's defense guessing throughout the match.
Westcliff's efficiency showed early, as the Warriors posted a .556 hitting percentage in the opening set to establish control. The second set proved to be the tightest of the match, with Westcliff holding composure late to secure a 26-24 win and take a commanding lead.
The Warriors closed strong in the third, maintaining pressure from the service line and converting key rallies to complete the sweep.
Defensively, Westcliff limited Ben U to a .446 hitting percentage and controlled critical stretches with disciplined play and timely execution, finishing with 25 digs and consistent transition play.
Next up, the Warriors return home to Host OUAZ (RV) at Cypress.
First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
