The Westcliff women's basketball team collected a tidy double-digit win at the Joan Kroc Center Thursday, taking down San Diego Christian, 74-64.
Bailey Hawkins came up huge with a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double to pace the Warriors in the win.
"We started off slow and gave up too many turnovers and transition points in the first half," Westcliff head coach Kyle Rouse said. "Our defense and our rebounding were the keys to our success in the second half.
"Our decision making got better as the game went on, which in turn made our shot selection much more efficient and led to a higher field goal percentage."
Trinity Vasquez was outstanding as well, finished with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Laura Tapia turned in 13 points and five assists.
Remy Hare had nine points, and Neyha Lali helped on four dimes.
Rouse pointed to the Warriors' performance at the charity stripe (just under 80%) as a key factor in the win.
"That efficiency (field goal %) and our solid shooting from the free throw line became clutch in the fourth quarter," he said. "We ended the game shooting 25-of-32 from the line, which helped us seal the victory."
Up next for the Warriors (1-1) is an exhibition showdown at UC Irvine Tuesday.
Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
