Warriors Improve to 2-0 in Cal Pac

What Happened? 

Westcliff Warriors (5-7, 2-0) went down south to face off against University of Saint Katherine Firebirds (8-6, 0-1). The game started off with a bang with the Warriors knocking down bucket after bucket. The Warriors finished the 1st period 23-5. The rest of the game was close with both teams getting their offensive schemes in rhythm. However, the impact of the 1st period hurt the Firebirds as they fell to the Warriors 76-54 for the final score. 

Why was this Important? 

Westcliff now improves to 2-0 in conference and sitting at the top of the south standings of the Cal Pac. This weekend the Warriors had to rely on other players with a few starters out because of injury or covid. Bailey Hawkins was one of the players that stepped up to the challenge. She grabbed a double double with 23 Points and 10 Rebounds.

Coach Rouse's Comments:

"We started off the game very strong and our execution was efficient on both sides of the ball." 
 
"USK did a good job trying to speed us up though and at times we struggled but overall we did a good job controlling our tempo and being patient. Our patience paid off and helped us be so productive while having 21 assists on the game. A season-high." 
 
"We need to tighten some things up on our passing but overall I thought we saw the floor very well and had very good shot selection overall. We ended up shooting 47.1% from the field which is also a season-high." 
 
"Bailey had a very complete game today both in defense and offense. She played physical and controlled the boards. She created matchup problems on the offensive end as well where she scored 23 points on a fantastic shooting night going 10-14 from the field. Very efficient." 

 

What's Next? Westcliff Warriors will be facing off against Biola Eagles in an exhibition match on the 18th at 5:30 PM.
