ALL TIME GREAT
Tolentino Passes Kanestrom as Dubs’ Most Prolific Scorer
By Brandon Petersen
The Westcliff women's soccer team blitzed La Sierra early and never looked back Sunday night, cruising to a 4–0 win over their former Cal Pac rivals.
The story of the night, however, belonged to Jysabella Tolentino.
Her 30th-minute strike was her 20th career goal, pushing her past Thea Sofie Kanestrom to the top of Westcliff's all-time scoring list.
"Of course, Jay getting the new goalscoring record — I'm so pleased for her," Westcliff head coach Jack Gidney said. "We are her third school, but she found the right fit for her and she's thrived. She deserves all the plaudits she's receiving, and she's not done yet. Thirty is in her sights."
Tolentino's record-breaker capped a four-goal first-half flurry.
Amylette Lopez opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing off a service from Andrea Reyes.
Ten minutes later it was Reyes herself finding the back of the net, unassisted.
Tolentino's history-maker pushed the margin to three before a La Sierra own goal rounded out the half.
"We wanted the game to be solely about high intensity, aggression," Gidney said. "We went man for man across the pitch, and luckily with La Sierra dropped in, it really allowed us to press the game right onto them."
The Warriors outshot the Golden Eagles 16–1, forcing 10 saves.
Westcliff's defense was airtight, as goalkeepers Edith Antolino and Kayli Cokley combined for the clean sheet.
Lauren Lizarraga earned player of the game honors for her work in the midfield.
"Some clinical finishing on big moments really put early statements on the game," Gidney said. "Amy yet again, and of course Jay setting the new record.
"This is a proper, proper squad."
Up next, the Warriors host Justice at Lake Forest Sports Park on Thursday.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
