The Westcliff women's soccer team tasted defeat for the first time in 2025, falling 4–1 at NCAA Division II Biola on Monday night at Al Barbour Field.
The Warriors (7–1–1) cut the deficit in half in the second half on a composed finish from Jysabella Tolentino, assisted by Amylette Lopez, but the Eagles responded quickly and closed the door with two more goals to secure the win.
Despite the result, head coach Jack Gidney came away impressed with the quality of the opposition and the lessons his side can carry forward.
"Biola are an excellent team, coached very well," Gidney said. "Their rotations and movement were wonderful. I'm a little disappointed we gave up a couple of soft goals, but I have no complaint about the result — Biola were fully deserving. What we learned tactically will pay dividends when playoff soccer comes. Tough lesson, but a good lesson."
Kayli Cokley made three saves in goal for the Warriors, while Jordyn Gather and Lauren Lizarraga each recorded shots on target.
The Warriors now turn the page toward conference play.
Westcliff opens Cal Pac action on Saturday against Stanton, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. at Orange Coast College.
