Warriors Finish Road Trip Unbeaten, Shut Out PUC 4–0
By Brandon Petersen
The Westcliff women's soccer team capped a long and turbulent road trip with a commanding 4–0 victory over Pacific Union on Sunday afternoon in Vallejo.
Originally scheduled for Angwin, the match was relocated to Cal Maritime due to field damage — yet even a disrupted itinerary couldn't slow the Warriors, who closed their Northern California swing with back-to-back Cal Pac shutouts.
Jysabella Tolentino continued her record-breaking run with two more goals, extending her career mark as the program's all-time leader.
Valery Cruz and Stephanie Serrato each added first-half strikes, and the Warriors never looked back.
In the 17th, defender Emma Brobakken was booked with a red after a physical one-on-one that the Westcliff felt deserved a yellow.
"Glad the game got to be played," head coach Jack Gidney said. "Really disappointed in the red. I thought it was very harsh. It's a good physical battle between the two of them and I think the fall has made it fail the eye test. Unfortunately, we lose Emma for Simpson."
Despite being down a player for more than 70 minutes, Westcliff never lost rhythm.
"Team responded really well particularly at 0-0 after the chaos of this trip and then to lose a player you could easily think, 'going to be one of those days,'" Gidney said. "They adjusted wonderfully and created a whole host of chances, and we have left the game thinking 4-0 was a kind result."
The win lifts Westcliff to 2–0 in Cal Pac play, outscoring opponents 14–0 over the two-match road stretch.
"We showed why we are who we are today," Gidney added. "Six points on the road, no goals conceded in league. Time to come home."
The Dubs return home Friday for a showdown with the Red Hawks at the Great Park.
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
