Warriors competed with NCAADII Vanguard

Westcliff Warriors went across the 405 to take on the Vanguard Lions their only NCAA Division 2 matchup of the season.

Warriors came out battling always keeping within a couple of points of the Lions in both the 1st and 2nd sets. The 2nd set also showed Westcliff with a 6 point lead. 

Lions showed their experience and swept the Warriors: 3-0; 21-25, 21-25, 13-25.

Westcliff had a lot of standout performances in this match.

Sam Swanson led both teams in digs with 14 along with a Service Ace and 2 Assists.

Faith Alvior napped a Solo Block, 7 Kills and 5 Digs.

Ella Beck at Setter earned a match high 20 Assists with 5 Digs and a Solo Block at the net.

Samantha Carelock on the right side 12 Kills and 9 Digs.

Coaches' Notes

"Standout player for me was Sam Swanson. Competing against a team 4-5 inches taller on average and hitting probably 5 mph faster, Sam held her ground and made many great defensive plays.  As the team says themselves, her defensive efforts are inspiring. We had 11 student-athletes played and each contributed in a different way even though some played the same role. It was also hopefully a learning experience for what it takes to play with a team. As we battled point for point and had a six point lead at one time, we are learning how we will win. We still make very many errors but are getting closer to an offensive expectation in terms of production to be successful." - Coach Cole

Westcliff Warriors are back at home on Sept 21st at 4:00pm taking on Occidental College at the Jordan Lawley Facility.
