Warriors Take Down the Lions, 3-2
The Westcliff women's beach volleyball team played a nonconference match against the Vanguard University Lions over the weekend in preparation for their Cal Pac Jamboree this following week.
The Warriors got some clutch wins from their pairs and won the match 3-2 which improved their record to (6-4, Cal Pac 4-0).
"Our message today was just to be problem solvers," said head coach Hannah Matt. "We wanted the girls to reflect on the things that went well yesterday."
Westcliff got wins from their 2s, 4s, and 5s.
Their No. 2 pair of Sabrina Galassi and Diamonique Brogan were pushed to a third set and were able to narrowly get the win in the final set, 17-15.
Doubles pair No. 5 of Ava Himstreet and Amanda Ferreira got the win that gave Westcliff the victory 24-22, 21-12.
"Today was one of the first days that I felt like the whole team played together, not just some partners, but everyone," Matt said. "Everyone was coming together giving each other high five, looking each other in the eye, and being encouraging and supportive teammates.
"We just came together and had that synergy that we needed to win the game. That's what we wanted all year, and it came together and made it happen."
The Warriors are in an important stretch of their season as they will play the other four members in the conference over two days.
On Friday, they will take on Park-Gilbert and Simpson.
On Saturday, it will be Benedictine-Mesa and USK.
Westcliff will be busy hosting the NAIA West Qualifiers this year which will take place in Chula Vista, April 11-13th.
The winner of that tournament will earn a spot in the NAIA women's beach invitational that will take place later that month.
