Warriors Defeat Eagles, 4-1

The Westcliff women's tennis team earned their first win of the season last week when they took down the Biola University Eagles, 4-1.

It was just the season's second match for the Warriors who enter 2024 as the defending GSAC champions.

The Warriors started well when they won the doubles point with their No. 2 and 3 pair.

Doubles No. 2, Emilse Ruiz, and Kanon Sorakubo continue to get positive results as a team and in their singles matches. They took down the Eagles pair 6-1.

Newly acquired doubles No. 3 Lois Tsui and Hana Moss won their match comfortably as well, 6-3.

Having won the doubles point, Westcliff just needed to win three singles matches to win the day.

Singles No. 2 Elena Gunfaus won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Gunfaus had previously lost her doubles match but was able to redeem herself and secure a point for Westcliff.

Ruiz and Sorakubo won their respective singles matches to give the Warriors the 4 points to win the game.

Alessia Radu and Anna Ruiz Masip were up a set in their matches before the competition stopped when the Warriors had earned the four points.

This was a good test for Westcliff who will now travel northeast this week to play against Pomona-Pitzer.

The match will be this Saturday, February 10th, with a start time of 4:00 PM.
